Models the practice of the early Church in which unbaptized individuals, after a lengthy period of spiritual preparation, were received into the Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. The RCIA is a process for adults inquiring and seeking initiation into the Catholic Church. After hearing God's word, these adults come forward to accept and understand Christ's mission and the Catholic Church's truths. Weekly gatherings consist of prayer, catechesis (teaching), reflection, and sharing as we come to discover where God is calling each individual. The process is open to all those not baptized, those baptized, those baptized in another Christian faith, and those baptized Catholic but who have never completed their initiation.
The RCIA is a journey of faith for the person and the entire community. Through renewal and conversion within the community, it provides an example of Christian living for those inquiring about the faith. Within the community, sponsors are called forth to support and accompany the candidate on their journey. The prayerful support of the whole community is essential to the spiritual welfare of the inquirer.
